Purse Feedback

My sister-in-law loves her purse! She commented on my Facebook page:
"Megan... this is the most awesome purse ever!!! I have totally given up my grungy book bag! This looks like a small purse but it has to be magic! I took it on our trip to the midwest and it held everything I could put in it! It was the perfect carry on for the plane! I LOVE it!!!"
Yays! *happy dance* I love it when others love what I make for them. *grins*

This was the purse that I made for her. Read more about it here and see more pics here.

  1. Hi! Thanks for your comment/question on my blog. I am going to respond here, even though it has nothing to do with this post. And feel free to email me through my blog -- there's a link.

My experience with my handbag business was good, but I never got rich off of it. I did it while it was fun and when it got less fun, I stopped. I eventually missed making clothes and focusing on sewing for myself. I also wanted to learn to quilt.

I started with a shop on etsy.com (www.burstofhappiness.etsy.com) and I probably sold a few items a month. I added a Web site of my own, but most sales were through etsy. I found craft shows to be dismal. Maybe it was the economy.

If you do an etsy shop, you must "relist" items each day. At least a few, so that you bump up to the front of lists and can be seen. This costs 20 cents per item relisted, but is really necessary.

I have been working on making patterns that I may offer for sale in my old shop, listed above. I want to offer a few PDF patterns, which will be a big initial investment in time, but will then take no effort to sell again and again. I'm not sure how that will work out, but I'll give it a shot.

I hope your business is successful. I haven't had much time to look at your blog yet, but so far I like what I see and plan to follow it.

  2. She loves it because it is awesome! Did you design this yourself? If there is a pattern out there, I would certainly be interested in getting my hands on it! I also looked at your Old Red Barn Co quilt on your last post- it is awesome! I love the border you added. I kind of can't wait for it to cool off so I can use my quilt!

Thanks for stopping by my blog!
